The stop detector of the internal COSY-11 experiment is a scintillator wall with the dimensions 220×100× 5 cm3 viewed from the back by 217 photomultipliers. The dependence of the number of fired photomultipliers (’multiplicity’) upon particle velocity is investigated. The data of an experiment with a beam momentum of pb=2.345 GeV/c were used. It was found that the multiplicity is independent on the hit position. The efficiency of the detector as a function of the particle velocity will be discussed. We further examined the summed signal amplitude as a means for the identification of two charged particles hitting the scintillator wall with small relative distance.
