What can we learn from three-pion interferometry? — •Qing-Hui Zhang and Ulrich Heinz — Institut für Theoretische Physik, Universität Regensburg, D-93040 Regensburg, Germany

We discuss the generalization of intensity interferometry from the case of two-particle correlations to three-particle correlations. We adress the question whether three particle correlations contain information on the shape and dynamics of the source which supplements what can be extracted from two-particle correlations. We find that the true three-particle correlation term is sensitive to the asymmetric of the source, but that it is experimentally very difficult to extract these asymmetries quantitively. Implications for ongoing analyses of three-particle correlations in heavy-ion experiment at the SPS in the CERN will be discussed.
