The wavelet transformation represents a fascinating new and powerful tool in signal analysis. Like a mathematical microscope and contrary to Fourier techniques it dissects a signal into local multiscale building blocks (wavelets) and in this way is able to compress, analyse and reconstruct textured signals efficiently; these properties are also very attractive for physics in general and complex multiparticle reactions in particular. The correlation structure of cascade processes occuring in multiparticle dynamics simplifies tremendously once wavelets are employed; higher order wavelet correlations turn out to be extremly sensitive on the reaction dynamics.
