Spin Polarization of Auger Electrons Following Ionization of Laser Excited Polarized Atoms† — •A. N. Grum-Grzhimailo1 and W. Mehlhorn2 — 1Institute of Nuclear Physics, Moscow State University, 119899 Moscow, Russia — 2Fakult"at f"ur Physik, Universit"at Freiburg, 79104 Freiburg, Germany
A new method is suggested for producing spin–polarized Auger electrons
by the ionization of laser excited polarized atoms [1].
Particular analysis is made for fast electron impact ionization in the
2s subshell of laser excited sodium atoms.
Large values of the spin polarization are predicted due to the polarization
transfer from the laser excited target to the Auger electron.
In special cases the Auger electrons are fully (100%) spin–polarized.
