We discuss elementary excitations of a trapped Bose condensed gas in the Thomas Fermi regime. For the case of harmonic traps we perform a systematic expansion of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation and Bogoliubov-De Gennes equations in the inverse interaction strength. We obtain the spectrum and the modes of the excitations for all energies. For low-energy excitations, as those measured in the recent JILA and MIT experiments, we emphasize the importance of the kinetic energy of the condensate, and we present solutions for any type of asymmetry of the trapping potential.
