Algebraic Quantum Field Theory — •Karl-Henning Rehren — II. Institut f"ur Theoretische Physik, Universit"at Hamburg
The algebraic approach to quantum field theory is like the coordinate-free approach to differential geometry. It emphasizes the paradigm that the net of local algebras of observables completely determines a theory. The fields which (might) generate the algebras are rather like (more or less suitable) "‘coordinates"’ and are indeed dispensable for a complete physical interpretation.
The task is therefore to extract specific information like particle spectrum, internal and external symmetries and cross sections from the algebraic data only.
I intend to illustrate aspects of this program.
