Charged particle transverse momentum spectra as a way of identifying BFKL dynamics at HERA are discussed. The idea is that because of the relaxation of the strong ordering of the transverse momenta kT of the gluons along the chain more transverse energy ET can be expected in the central region between the current jet and the proton remnants than would result from DGLAP evolution. Since, however, for a measurement of the HERA ET flow it is not possible to distinguish between perturbative parton radiation and non-perturbative hadronization effects, we focus on the transverse momentum (pT) spectra of charged particles in the final state in the central region at HERA. The advantage of this is that for pT ≥ 4 GeV/c hadronization effects can be avoided because whereas parton radiation leads to a hard tail of the pT distribution, the production of high-pT particles from hadronization is suppressed.
