Macroscopic quantum tunneling in organo metallic crystals — •T. Ohm and C. Paulsen — Centre de recherches sur les Tres Basses Temperatures, CNRS Grenoble
Magnetic susceptibility and relaxation measurements on organo-metallic samples at very low temperatures are presented. The organo-metallic samples contain magnetic clusters which are embedded in the non-magnetic organic matrix. These samples are similar in that the clusters show a high net spin and strong anisotropy. At high temperature the change of magnetization can be explained by a thermal activated inversion of the mesoscopic cluster-spin. At low temperatures (≥ 50 mK) below the blocking temperature alternatives explanations like high-spin-tunneling or macroscopic quantum tunneling have to be taken into account to explain the relaxation dynamic.
