Non-collinear magnetic structures in UTX and UX compounds. — •L.M. Sandratskii and J. K"ubler — Institut für Festkörperphysik, Technische Hochschule, 64289 Darmstadt
We continue our studies (see, e.g., [1]) of magnetic structure
and electron
properties of various Uranium compounds. In the present contribution
we contrast the magnetic structures of UTX with those of UX compounds. Using
UPdSn as an example of UTX compounds, we show that in this case we
deal with a non-collinear magnetic structure that is predetermined by
symmetry. We show how an interplay of two physical phenomena,
the spin-orbit coupling and the hybridization between
the U 5f and states of the Pd and Sn atoms, leads with certainty to
noncollinearity of the magnetic structure.
By means of the example of USb we show that in this case
we deal with an essentially different type of non-collinearity
wich results from a balance between different ineractions and
therefore cannot be predicted without a direct calculation. Also
the densities of states and the values of magnetic moments are
reported and compared with experiment.
