Structure and Dynamics at Hard and Soft Interfaces — •U. Landman — Georgia Institute of Technology, School of Physics, Atlanta, Georgia 30332
Understanding the atomic scale structure and dynamics of interfacial systems is a major challenge of modern research in solid state physics and materials science, with potential implications to various technologies. In this lecture we will discuss classical and quantum molecular dynamics simulations of interfacial processes, including: formation mechanisms, structure, mechanical properties, and quantum transport characteristics of intermetallic nanowire junctions; collision dynamics of clusters with solid and liquid surfaces and properties of surface supported structures; nanotribological phenomena, and properties of interfacially confined complex molecular liquids, including nano-elastohydrodynamic phenomena in thin-film lubricated junctions.
