The Effect of Resonances on Chaotic Scattering — •B. Elattari, V. Kagalovsky, and H. A. Weidenmüller — MPI für Kernphysik, Postfach 10 39 80, D-69029, Heidelberg
The passage of light or of electrons through a disordered medium is modified in the presence of resonances. Such modification has been observed in the experimental measurements of the diffusion constant D [1]. We study this phenomenon from the point of view of the Random Matrix Theory (RMT). An extension of the existing RMT has been developed to study the effect of resonances on the localization properties [2]. The averaged density of states (DOS), the DOS-DOS correaltion function, the averaged S-matrix and conductance have been calculated exatly. The resulting proportionality of the diffusion constant D and the inverse DOS explains experimental results.
