Aspects of the electronic structure of PrBa2Cu3O7 — •Roland Fehrenbacher1 and T. M. Rice21Max-Planck-Institut für Festkörperforschung, Heisenbergstr. 1, D-70569 Stuttgart, Germany — 2ETH Hönggerberg, CH-8093 Zürich, Switzerland

The PrBa2Cu3O7 compound continues to be of substantial interest to the high-Tc community not only because of the unique role of Pr to suppress superconductivity, but also as a result of its unusual magnetic and transport properties. Here, we shall discuss various aspects of the electronic structure of PrBa2Cu3O7: (a) The difference in the hole occupation of the planar O orbitals as compared to YBa2Cu3O7, (b) the importance of electronic correlations to understand the measured ac conductivity, and (c) the influence of the ion radius of the rare earth element (Re) in Re1−xPrxBa2Cu3O7 on the rate of Tc suppression as a function of x.
