The excitation spectra of the dynamic structure factors for four different fluctuation operators (spin, dimer, trimer, center) in the one-dimensional s=1 Heisenberg model with isotropic bilinear and biquadratic exchange are investigated via the recursion method for systems with up to N=18 sites. The results for these quantities and for the corresponding static structure factors lead to a better understanding of the ordering tendencies in the various coupling regimes of this model and help us identify the nature of the elementary and composite excitations which dominate the T=0 dynamics.
