Signs of Incoherence in Weakly Coupled Luttinger-Liquids — •M.G. Zacher, H. Endres, and W. Hanke — Institut für Theoretische Physik, Universität Würzburg, Am Hubland, 97074 Würzburg

Interchain hopping in systems of coupled Hubbard and extended Hubbard chains is investigated by Quantum Monte-Carlo methods. The difference in occupation between the bonding and the anti-bonding band at the Fermi-momentum is drastically reduced by a Coulomb-like repulsive interaction extending over a few lattice spacings. This reduction is related to the anomalous exponent α of the uncoupled one-dimensional Luttinger-liquid. Due to the Coulomb-like interaction α-values as high as α ≈ 0.5 have been calculated numerically on finite lattice systems. The observed dramatic reduction of the occupation difference is evidence for incoherent one-particle-hopping between the chains.
