Resonant tunneling, pseudo gap and charge dynamics in cuprate superconductors — •J. Halbritter — IMF1, Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe
The quasi-two-dimensional, metallic conduction in CuO2-planes and activated out-of plane conduction seem typical for most of the cuprate superconductors. The activated out-of plane conduction is explained here by resonant tunneling via intermediate states with the charging Δ U* as activation energy. Δ U* is larger for atomic-like localization and smaller for delocalized states developing with O-doping. The counteraction of overlap and charging energies yield activated out-of plane resonant tunneling in the normal state and Josephson tunneling in the superconducting state being described quantitatively by accepted parameters. The out-of plane, localized charge exchange scatters the in-plane conduction relating so Δ U* = kT0 to the pseudo gap temperature T0, where τ∥(T<T0) starts to increase more strongly.
