Renormalization Group Approach to Non–equilibrium Transport through Correlated Systems — •T. A. Costi — Institut für Theorie der Kondensierten Materie, Universität Karlsruhe, 76128 Karlsruhe

A technique for calculating non–equilibrium Green functions and transport properties of correlated systems is presented [1]. An analogy to the calculation of response functions in the x–ray problem is used. The initial and final state problems, which correspond to the situations before and after the disturbance (an electric field, for example) is suddenly switched on, are solved with the aid of Wilson’s momentum shell renormalization group. The method provides a new approach to the calculation of non–equilibrium transport through small devices such as ultrasmall tunnel junctions and quantum dots. The main advantages of this technique are that it is non–perturbative in both the interactions, so that many–body correlations are built in, and in the disturbance, so that non–linear effects can be studied. The technique is illustrated by calculating the transient and long time response of the dissipative two state system to the sudden switching off of an initial bias.
