The intersystem crossing of isotopic isomers of pentacene — •A.C.J. Brouwer, A.M. van Ooijen, J. Köhler, and J. Schmidt — Centre for the Study of Excited States of Molecules, Huygens Laboratory, University of Leiden, The Netherlands
Using a combination of experimental techniques, individual pentacene molecules of specific isotopic isomer types were selected. For each of these molecules the intersystem crossing (ISC) rates to and from the meta-stable triplet state were determined. A consistent trend in the S1→T1 ISC for the various isotopomers was observed. The picture emerging from the combined data matches a model predicting ISC enhancement due to degeneracy of a vibrational level of a higher lying triplet state with S1.
