A cross-sectional preparation method for morphological investigations on layered polymer interfaces — •Joachim Loos1, Frank Katzenberg2, and J"urgen Petermann2 — 1Dutch Polymer Institute, Technical University of Eindhoven, NL — 2Lehrstuhl f"ur Werkstoffkunde, Universit"at Dortmund
The epitaxial (oriented) crystallization of binary blends of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) / high density polyethylene (HDPE) or HDPE / linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) have received considerable attention in recent years. It is the purpose of this poster to introduce a new preparation technique for the investigation of epitaxial polymer interfaces. Investigations on cross-sectionally prepared samples result in further details of the morphology of epitaxial polymer interfaces. It will be showed in both cases, HDPE/iPP and LLDPE/HDPE, that the epitaxial layer is aligned perpendicular to the substrate for long distances (100 nm to 1 µ m), and that the crystalite thickness of the LLDPE lamellae has adopted the thickness of the HDPE crystals at the interface.
