The ι(1440) and the pseudoscalar mesons. Crystal Barrel results are reported for pp → π⁺π⁻π⁺π⁻η annihilation at rest in liquid hydrogen at LEAR. There is a clear signal of the ι(1440) in pp → π⁺π⁻π⁺π⁻η. The ι(1440) decays strongly to π⁺π⁻η, and dominantly to ησ, with the contribution to ησ being roughly a factor of two greater than that to a₀(980)π. The radial excitations of the pseudoscalar mesons are considered: the ι(1440) may be the radial excitation of the η. There is a contradictory evidence to the existence of the η(1295).
