Measurement of hyperon charge radii at SELEX — •I. Eschrich, U. Dersch, I. Konorov, H. Krüger, B. Povh, J. Simon, and K. Vorwalter — Max-Planck Institut für Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg
The 650 GeV/c high-intensity hyperon beam at Fermilab provides an
excellent possibility to measure the
charge radii of Σ−, π−, p, Ξ−, and Σ+
by elastic scattering of beam particles on shell electrons in a
carbon target.
During the 1997 run of the Selex/E781 experiment we have implemented
a dedicated trigger and an online filter in the standard Selex
charm setup
and recorded more than 200 million
elastic hadron-electron scattering events.
The analysis is currently focusing on the Σ− and π− radii.
Event selection, data stripping, and acceptance corrections are
described and first results presented.
