Measurement of the Σ− and π− charge radii in the WA89 experiment at CERN [1] — •F. Dropmann — Max-Planck Institut f"ur Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg
In order to determine the π−– and Σ−–charge radii the differential cross section dσ/dQ2 for π−– and Σ−– electron scattering at small four-momentum transfers Q2 were measured. Σ− and π− scattering events were identified and characterized by means of a maximum likelihood method. Comparing the extracted <r2>(π−) with existing data on the pion radius we can crosscheck this procedure. Applying this method to Σ− – electron scattering, for the first time the influence of a strange quark on the charge radius of a baryon can be explored.
