Digital signal processing provides efficient means to extract timing
and position information from semiconductor detector signals by pulse
shape analysis. This information is vital for the correct reconstruction
of scattered events in the highly segmented tracking detectors of future
multi-detector arrays. A new prototype of the Pulse Processing Analog to
Digital Converter (PPADC) has been built, which features:
- on-line linearization and stabilisation of the the response of the
sampling ADC to provide ultimate energy resolution,
- time-variant decimation to allow full speed sampling of the detailed
shape of the detector signal,
- pipe-line processing to execute all relevant digital algoritms in
real time. The results of the first test experiments will be reported.
