Gamma-spectroscopic studies of laser-ionized Mn isotopes were performed at the CERN-ISOLDE facility. The new results on 64Mn and 66Mn decays extend the level-systematics of the even-even 26Fe nuclides up to N=40. When compared to the 2+ and 4+ energies of the isotonic Ni and Zn nuclides sharp differences are revealed beyond N=36. The proton-magic 28Ni isotopes, as expected, show the effect of the spherical N=40 subshell, whereas the 30Zn level energies rise only through N=38 and than begin to show collectivity effects from occupancy of the ν-g9/2 orbitals. The 2+ energies of the Fe isotones, however, start to drop already after N=36 indicating quenching of the N=40 subshell at Z=26. ∗ work supported by BMBF (06MZ476) and DFG (436RUS/17/40/97)
