Proton-Proton Correlations in Central Pb+Pb Collisions at 158 AGeV — •M. Cristinziani, F. Eckhardt, V. Friese, T. Henkel, C. Struck, and F. Pühlhofer — Fachbereich Physik der Universität Marburg* and the NA49 Collaboration
Proton-proton correlations in central Pb+Pb collisions at 158 GeV/u were studied in order to determine to what extent they are sensitive to the radius of the freeze-out configuration. The large-volume TPCs of NA49 at the CERN-SPS combined with a high-resolution TOF detector permitted excellent proton identification at mid-rapidity.
The correlation function was obtained from data for 200,000 events. The combinatorial background was calculated using the event-mixing technique. Monte-Carlo simulations were carried out using the event-generator VENUS [1] and the correlation code CRAB [2]. After corrections for momentum resolution and Λ feed-down, simulations and data are consistent within experimental errors.
