The large acceptance of the NA49 experiment at the CERN SPS facilitates the study of
strange and multi-strange hadron production in central Pb+Pb reactions at
158 A·GeV within a wide range in rapidity and transverse momentum.
Time Projection Chambers with high precision momentum resolution
allow to reconstruct and identify neutral strange and charged multi-strange particles by means
of their typical decay topologies.
First results on double strange Ξ- and Ξ-hyperons measured in central Pb+Pb
reactions will be presented.
The inverse slope parameter T of the Ξ+ Ξ transverse mass spectrum was found to be >300 MeV.
The production ratios of the different singly and doubly strange hadrons will also presented.
The rapidity distributions of Λ and Λ produced in
central Pb+Pb collisions will be compared with other collision systems.
