The two arm spectrometer for charged particles in the WA98
experiment has measured different
particle species which were produced in Pb - Pb collisions at a beam energy
of 158 AGeV.
The pt -
spectra of different particles allow the study of the freeze-out
temperature and radial flow. The rapidity distribution of baryons at
mid-rapidity provide a sensitive probe for the
collision dynamics: the stopping power should determine the
dependence between the energy which is available for excitation of the system
and the incoming longitudinal energy. Strangeness production is important
concerning the chemical equilibrium, which is predicted in thermal models.
We will discuss transversal momentum spectra and ratios of pions,
kaons and protons.
