In previous studies of transfer reactions on medium-weight and heavy nuclei, broad structures were observed at high excitation energies. These structures were identified as high-lying single-particle states. The study of the decay of these states by particle emission can give us information on the microscopic structure of these states and on their spreading mechanism. In an experiment at RCNP in Osaka, Japan we have studied the proton decay from 91Nb following the 90Zr(α,t)91Nb reaction at a bombarding energy of 180 MeV. The tritons were analyzed in the spectrometer Grand Raiden and a setup of 40 silicon detectors was used for the detection of the protons, allowing us to study the angular correlation between the emitted proton and the triton. In this talk, results of the experiment and comparison with theoretical predictions will be presented.
