Electromagnetic Properties of Pseudoscalar Mesons in a Relativistic Quark Model — •Matthias Koll, Bernard Metsch, Ralf Ricken, and Herbert Petry — Institut für Theoretische Kernphysik, Nu"sallee 14 – 16, D–53115 Bonn
In this talk, the results of a relativistic quark model on electromagnetic properties of pseudoscalar mesons are presented. These are investigated in the framework of a relativistic quark model based on the Bethe Salpeter equation. In order to deal with the four–dimensional kernel in this equation, an instantaneous interaction is assumed, leading to the so-called Salpeter equation. We use a phenomenological parameterized confining potential; apart from this, an instanton-induced two-body force is implemented, following an idea of ’t Hooft. This ansatz has led to good results for light mesons such as the pseudoscalar mesons π, K and η which are the subject of this talk.
We focus on the electric polarizability α and the magnetic polarizability β of charged and neutral pseudoscalar mesons as structure constants in the non–relativistic expansion of the Compton scattering amplitude. Furthermore we discuss the widths of the two photon decays π 0, η, η ′→ γγ. The results are presented and compared to other theoretical investigations as well as to experimental results.
