The ’cold’ correlated 2n-pair-transfer has been examined using the reaction 116Sn(162Dy, 160Dy)118Sn in order to study nucleon-nucleon pairing correlations under the influence of rotation and deformation. The experiment was performed during the GSI CLUSTER campaign using the Crystal Ball spectrometer combined with 5 CLUSTER detectors and an array of position-sensitive parallel-plate avalanche counters to fix the kinematics. As one cannot gate on cold transfer (i.e. direct transfer from yrast states in 162Dy to yrast states in 160Dy), the cold transfer has to be selected by suppressing the dominant uncorrelated (’hot’) part of the transfer. The Crystal Ball offers an effective way to suppress hot transfer processes because its 4π geometry allows to detect almost all emitted γ-rays in an event. The CLUSTER detectors were used due to their high Ge-efficiency in order to identify the transfer channel and to resolve individual final states. The angular distribution of the cross section for the direct population of individual low spin states in 160Dy in a cold transfer reaction has been measured for the first time and exhibits characteristic properties which can be compared with a calculation [1].
