We report on the discovery of the astrophysically interesting 3/2+
state in 19F at Ex = 7101 keV via
the 15N(α,γ)19F reaction at the University of
Stuttgart 4 MV Dynamitron. The experiment has been performed
using enriched 15N gas in the windowless gas target facility
Rhinoceros, BGO-shielded HPGe detectors of about 100 %
relative efficiency and He+ beam currents of about 80 µA.
This new and directly measured resonance, which has a total width of
28 keV and a considerable strength, confirms the recent discovery of
the mirror 3/2+ state (Ex = 7070 keV) in 19Ne at Argonne
National Laboratory [Re96] and Louvain la Neuve [Co95] which dominates
the recycling / breakout rate from the Hot CNO-cycle to the rp-process
via 18F(p,α)15O and 18F(p,γ)19Ne.
The 3/2+ state in 19F has been identified by confirming its
unique γ–decay scheme.
