First experiments with the A1 focal plane proton-polarimeter* — •Th. Pospischil — Institut für Kernphysik, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, J.J.-Becher-Weg 45, D-55099 Mainz
For the measurement of the recoil proton polarization in coincidence
experiments with the three spectrometer-facility, the A1 collaboration
at the Mainzer Mikrotron (MAMI) set up a proton polarimeter in the
focal plane of one of the spectrometers.
It makes use of the azimuthal asymmetry in the inclusive scattering
of polarized protons off a carbon analyzer.
Elastic electron-proton scattering p(e→,e′p→), where
the polarization transfer to the proton is known, enabled both
the calibration of the detector system and the investigation of
the spin precession in the magnetic fields of the QSDD-Spectrometer.
A first double polarization experiment p(e→,e′p→)π0
aims at the measurement of the C2-quadrupole contribution
in the N→Δ transition at a four-momentum transfer of
Q2 = 0.12 GeV2.
