Measurement of the degree of linear polarization of collimated coherent bremsstrahlung [1] — •F. Rambo — II. Physikalisches Institut, Universit"at G"ottingen
Coherent bremsstrahlung in combination with photon tagging is used as a
source of linearly polarized photons at the Mainz Microtron (MAMI).
If the photon beam
is collimated an increase of the degree of linear polarization is
expected.
Practical applications of this favourable property require both a detailed
quantitative experimental [2] and theoretical [3] investigation. In the
present contribution we will report on measurements of the degree of
linear polarization of collimated coherent bremsstrahlung that took place
at MAMI in 1995/96. The photon spectrometer TAPS has been used to detect
the
decay photons from coherent π∘-photoproduction on 4He
which has been exploited as the analysing reaction.
