Ξ and Ξ* production in Σ−-, π−- und n- nucleus collisions [1] — •H. Neeb — Max-Planck Institut für Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg
The WA89 hyperon beam experiment at CERN offers the unique opportunity to study the production of Ξ and Ξ* resonances under homogeneous conditions with different types of beam on several targets. For Σ− induced reactions we will present xf distributions for produced Ξ−, Ξ0(1530), Ξ−(1820), and Ξ−(1960). The observations will be compared to theoretical predictions obtained within a quark-gluon string model.
A further benefit of the present study is the conformation of not yet fully established resonances and the determination of their corresponding resonance parameters. As an example we report on the first observation of the Ξ−π+ decay mode of the Ξ0(1690).
