Dipole excitations in the spherical nucleus 138Ba were investigated at the bremsstrahlung facility of the S-DALINAC accelerator at TU Darmstadt in a photon scattering experiment using two Cluster detectors. This setup is an extension of a successful previous setup [1,2]. The Cluster detector was used as a Compton polarimeter for the first time in a photon scattering experiment. We present excitation energies, spins, cross sections, and transition strengths up to 6.7 MeV and we discuss the data evaluation of the polarization measurements in order to determine parities of the exited states. This work was supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Nos. Br 799/6-2 and Ri 242/12-1 and by the BMBF, Nos. 06 OK 862I(O) and 06 DR 666I.
