Population of n-rich nuclei with 7Li-induced Incomplete Fusion reaction — •A. Dietrich, H. Bauer, B. Binder, Ch. Gund, T. Härtlein, D. Pansegrau, and D. Schwalm — MPI für Kernphysik Heidelberg
The Incomplete Fusion reaction 7Li→160Gd can be used to
do spectroscopy of high spin states in n-rich nuclei,
which are not accessible in standard (HI,xn)-reactions [1].
In order to study this reaction systematically, a 3mg/cm2 thick
Gd-target was bombarded by a 7Li beam at several energies from 35 MeV
up to 67 MeV provided by the
MP-tandem postaccelerator facility of the MPI-K in Heidelberg.
With increasing energy an increasing importance of the breakup of the projectile
into a fast forward-peaked light particle and a
massive fragment, which fuses with the target nucleus, could be established.
A segmented Δ E-E-telescope was used together with several
Ge-detectors for selecting the
different reaction channels and for measuring the angular-
and energy distribution of the light reaction fragments (typically p,
d and t).
In addition, the absolute cross sections for populating the individual
reaction channels and the angular momentum distribution in the
residual nuclei could be extracted.
