Bound η- and ω-states in nuclei — •Thomas Waas, Frank Klingl, and Wolfram Weise — Technische Universität München, Physik Department T39

Following previous investigations of deeply bound pionic states in nuclei, we develop realistic potentials for the η- and ω-mesons in nuclear matter based on a chiral SU(3) effective Lagrangian. We find in both cases an attractive interaction which leads to bound states of these mesons in nuclei. Using a Green’s function approach we investigate the possibility of detecting these bound states in the A(d,3 He) pick-up reaction. The dependence on the incoming beam energy and the target nuclei A is discussed. We also comment on the option of producing such states with a pion beam. The role of the in-medium width of the η- and ω-mesons will be examined in this context.
