Damping of giant dipole resonances in symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter — •U. Fuhrmann, K. Morawetz, R. Walke, and G. Röpke — AG Quantentheorie und Vielteilchensysteme, FB Physik, Universität Rostock, Universitätsplatz 3, D-18051 Rostock
The damping rates of hot giant resonances are investigated. The Giant dipole resonance (GDR) in symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter [1] is described using the dielectric function (DF) in random phase approximation (RPA). We derive a dispersion relation whose complex solution provides us with the centroid energy and the damping width of giant resonances. With an extended appproach using a conserving relaxation time approximaion to include collision effects, different contributions to the damping of GDR will be discussed and compared with recent experimental data.
