Presently the REX-ISOLDE experiment [1] is built up at CERN. A Penning trap (REX Trap) accumulates 1+ ions continuously delivered from the ISOLDE mass separator and bunches them into an Electron Beam Ion Source (EBIS) where they are breeded to higher charge states before they are further accelerated. An alternative way to operate the experiment may be to use a gas filled radio frequency QuadruPole Ion Guide system (rf QPIG) [2] to improve the emittance of the ISOLDE beam and inject the resulting low emittance beam continuously into the EBIS which then will be operated in the Accu-EBIS mode [3]. Calculations for such a rf QPIG have been done and the results will be presented. It is planned to build a prototype within this year and obtain experimental results to be able to compare the REX Trap and Accu-EBIS mode.
