H-Link: A Multipurpose Optical Data Link System for HADES — •M. Petri, W. K"uhn, J. Lehnert, E. Lins, M. Pleier, and J. Ritman — II. Physikalisches Institut, Universit"at Gie"sen, Heinrich-Buff-Ring 16, D-35392 Gie"sen for the HADES-Collaboration
The H-Link optical link system developed for the High-Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer HADES is intended for the data transfer between the front-end electronics of the different sub-detector systems and the image processing units (IPUs) in the second level trigger system. Based on the output structure of the HADES front-end electronics the H-Link transmitter module (HTM) accepts the LVDS or diff. ECL output of up to 4 asynchronously operating data sources with an individual data frame width of 16 bits and a maximum data frame rate of 40MHz. The input of these data sources is temporarily stored and resynchronized on an event by event basis for the transmission via the optical link system. The data transfer rate of the HTM optical link system is programmable and can be set to a maximum of 320Mbyte/s over a maximum distance of 300 meters. The H-Link receiver module (HRM) receives the optical information and provides a 64 bit-wide electrical data output which can also be organized in up to four individual frame groups with a maximum data frame rate of 40MT/s. The hardware implementation as well as first test results will be presented.
