A Coincidence Trigger Processor with Programmable Timing* — •P. Merle — Institut für Kernphysik, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, J.J.-Becher-Weg 45, D-55099 Mainz, Germany

The three spectrometer setup of the A1 Collaboration at the MAMI accelerator requires the detection of double and triple coincidences at varying timing conditions depending on the selected experimental kinematics. Therefore a programmable coincidence logic with software adjustable signal delays and widths was designed. By using 24-bit shift registers clocked at 100MHz coincidence windows may be set in steps of 10ns. In addition software adjustable downscaling and deadtime measurement for all possible event types is also implemented. The trigger processor consists of a commercially available CAMAC module (Lecroy) with Xilinx 400X Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). The logic has been developed and simulated using the Cadence FPGA Development software. First tests of the system showed excellent stability and time resolution of the trigger processor output.
