Comparison of digital and analogue radius determination in HPGe detectors — •C. Gund, L. Palafox, T. Härtlein, and D. Schwalm — Max–Planck–Institut für Kernphysik, Heidelberg
In the MINIBALL setup large encapsulated high purity germanium
detectors for γ-ray detection will be operated at small target distances. An
enhanced granularity is therefore required to improve the Doppler correction. In
order to obtain the highest granularity possible both angular
segmentation and radial resolution by pulse shape analysis will be
employed. One of the favoured algorithms for pulse shape analysis,
the steepest slope algorithm [1], can be implemented both digitally and
in an analogue circuit. Hence the two possible ways of implementing this algorithm are
compared focussing on radial resolution, speed and price per channel.
