Charged Pion production in Nucleus - Nucleus Collisions at SIS Energies — •D. Pelte — Physikalisches Institut der Universit"at Heidelberg, Philosophenweg 12, D-69120 Heidelberg
The production of charged pions has been measured for several symmetric nucleus - nucleus collisions (100 < A < 400) and at several incident energies (0.4 < E < 2 AGeV) using the FOPI detector at GSI. The results are compared to the systematics of Metag [1] and Harris et al. [2]. It is shown that pion production is suppressed in heavy-mass systems. The ratio of charged pions is studied as functions of the fireball size and the rapidity. The results are compared to the equivalent data from proton - nucleus collisions [3].
