Probing nuclear structure of light exotic nuclei with breakup reactions — •T. Baumann — GSI, Darmstadt
Light dripline nuclei in the lithium-to-carbon region have recently been investigated at the fragment separator (FRS) at GSI . Using the energy-loss mode of the FRS, the longitudinal momentum distributions of core fragments from breakup reactions at 1.0–1.5 GeV/nucleon were measured. The study focused on the loosely bound neutron-rich carbon isotopes 17,19C and on the boron isotopes 8,10,14B. To further clarify the structure of the proton halo 8B, we also investigated the one-neutron removal of its mirror nucleus 8Li. The longitudinal momentum distribution reveals information about the nuclear structure and the formation of halo states in loosely bound systems. 8B and 19C have been investigated in earlier experiments [1,2]. The measured width of the longitudinal momentum distribution for 19C does not agree with the result of Ref. [2], but is compatible with available nuclear structure calculations [3]. The measurement of 8B employed detectors with higher resolution and an improved detector-setup compared to Ref. [1].
