A New 3He(d,p)4He Polarimeter for Deuterons and Calibration Measurements — •A. Czerwinski, R. Engels, M. Eggert, M. Przyborowski, and H. Paetz gen. Schieck — Institut f"ur Kernphysik, Universit"at zu K"oln
In order to measure the tensor and vector polarization of a
nuclear-polarized deuteron beam in the energy range from 5 to 20 MeV,
a new polarimeter based on the 3He(d,p)4He reaction was developed.
The polarimeter consists of five NaI(Tl) scintillation detectors, one at
a scattering angle of 0∘ and four detectors at 24.5∘
positioned crosswise.
Because of contradictory data in the literature an absolute calibration,
based on the isospin-forbidden 16O(d,α1)14N reaction
was performed to
determine the tensor-analyzing powers Axz, Axx-Ayy, Azz.
For the same reason a relative calibration of the vector-analyzing power
Ay was made.
First results of these measurements will be presented together with a detailed
description of the polarimeter design.
