Neutron response functions of an NE 213 liquid scintillation detector were calculated with the widely used NRESP code [1] and, for the first time, the MCNP code [2] taking into consideration nonlinear light output functions for secondary charged particles. Excellent agreement between NRESP and MCNP calculations was achieved if the same detector model, light output functions and neutron cross sections were used. With a modification of the MCNP code, the response functions may now also be calculated for complex detector arrangements, e.g. including massive shieldings. A recently developed setup for the study of (e,en) coincidence experiments is discussed as an example.
