Within the interacting boson fermion fermion model odd-odd nuclei can be described together with their even-even and odd-A neighbours in a common supersymmetry [1]. The quartet of 195,196Pt and 195,196Au is one of the best candidates to test this theory. However, there is very little information about the level scheme of 196Au. We have measured e−-single, e−-γ coincidences with an iron-free orange spectrometer (at the Isochron-Cyclotron at Bonn) and γ-γ coincidences (at the Paul-Scherrer Institut CH) in the 196Pt(d,2n) reaction. In addition we performed a measurement of the excitation function in the 196Pt(p,n) reaction. The cross-section of this reaction is small, but with protons at low energies (Ep≈ 9−12 MeV) we only excite low spin states. This is an advantage, because in our limit (Uπ(6/4) ⊗ Uν(6/12)) the IBFFM only predicts the low lying negative parity states with Iπ≤6−. Our first results allow the construction of a preliminary scheme with 3 new negative parity states. Further measurements are necessary and a γ-γ coincidence measurement at the Bonn cyclotron in the 196Pt(p,n) reaction is planned for Feb. ’98.
