States within the three superdeformed bands in 194Hg were populated via
the 150Nd (48Ca,4n) 194Hg reaction at a beam energy of
210 MeV. The lifetimes of the low-lying superdeformed (SD) states were obtained
applying the Recoil–Distance Doppler–Shift technique. The experiment was
performed at the LBNL Berkeley, using the spherical Cologne plunger apparatus
in combination with the multi-detector array Gammasphere.
For the data analysis γ-ray coincidences of fold four and higher were
used divided up among nine target-stopper distances ranging from 8µm to
103µm. The decay out of the superdeformed yrast band will be discussed
within the framework of a simple mixing model, considering the new lifetime
values.
