High–spin states in 196Pb were populated via the
186W(16O,6n) reaction at a beam energy of 110 MeV. The beam
was delivered by the Tandem XTU accelerator of the Legnaro National
Laboratory, Gamma rays were measured with the EUROBALL
array which consisted of 13 Cluster–, 25 Clover– and 28 standard
Germanium detectors. The target was of a stack of two self
supporting foils with a thickness of 400 µg/cm2 each. In total
3.5·109 events with a coincidence fold of F ≥ 6
of unsuppressed Ge signals have been collected.
The level scheme in the second minimum with four superdeformed bands
is investigated and a search for linking transitions is performed.
