The ground state energy of 229Pa is significant in view of possible octupole deformation [1]. The Q-value of the 231Pa(p,t)-reaction to the 3/2− head of the K=1/2− band was found to be -4145(1) keV. A ground state Q-value of -4126(9) keV can be obtained from the Atomic Mass systematics. Information on energy and spin of the ground state can be deduced from the 3/2− → g.s. transition. Corresponding low-energy γ-ray can be observed if the spin of the ground state is really 5/2+ as suggested in [2] and thus multipolarity of the transition is E1. Coincidences (t,γ) following the 231Pa(p,t)-reaction were observed with this aim. The transition energy was found to be 11.6±0.3 keV. It leads to a value of Qg.s.=-4133(2) keV and mass defect of 229Pa 29894(3) keV. The result supports also the 5/2+ spin assignment.
