Properties of finite nuclei are investigated within an extended relativistic mean-field model. We use a density dependent microscopic interaction derived from Dirac-Brueckner calculations. Our interaction takes into account the medium dependence of the coupling constants in terms of the baryon operators leading to additional rearrangement terms in the nucleon selfenergies. We investigate the contributions from the scalar isovector δ meson which are expected to become important when approaching regions of strong proton-neutron asymmetry. Stable nuclei are well described. A more detailed test of the isovector interaction is obtained from calculations in the Sn-region. Results are compared to the relativistic mean-field and the non-relativistic Skyrme model. Proton and neutron shell closures in superheavy elements are investigated. First results indicate proton shell closures for Z=114 and Z=120. The exact location depends sensitively on the interplay of the Coulomb and strong interactions.
